The Jura mountains and the
Western Alps of Switzerland - where the French 'savoir de vivre'
and the Swiss penchant for precision meet.
Here,
there actually IS a 'Watch Valley', where the tradition of
watch-making was born and now flourishes.
Yet, in 'le Pays de la
Précision' one has the feeling of time standing still.
Here, our batteries will be recharged, and every second savored,
as we enjoy remote alpine valleys, serene lakes, and the
undulating landscapes of the Jura massif.
Consisting of a series of
parallel ridges that form a border between E France and NW
Switzerland, the highest peaks of the Jura mountains rise only
as high as 1723 meters, with dense pine forests and pastures
covering most of the rounded crests and summits.
Our
tour will lead from the relatively ancient and settled Jura
range into the heart of the much younger and still-growing Swiss
Alps, and finally into the French Alps of the Haute-Savoie.
Our routes will offer experiences and landscapes inspiring
emotions ranging from contemplation to jaw-dropping awe.
Each day we'll have a choice between routes as challenging as
9000 feet of climbing over 80 miles to more mellow routes from
3500 feet altitude over 50 miles.
No matter what route is taken,
there is the certainty at day's end day of comfortable lodging
and a rich array of regional wines, cheeses, fresh produce, and
meals served in the formidable tradition of hospitality for
which France and Switzerland are famous.
